Melbourne Pokemon Regional Championships

 Hello all!

I hope everyone has been well. Unlike myself, who currently has a cold. It's minor though, so don't worry. I think I'll survive it.. maybe.

So, I went to the Melbourne Pokemon Regional Championships on the weekend just gone for the video game. It was held at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre and I stayed at the Crown Metropol which is basically right next door.

The hotel was amazing, and the views were omgggg. I posted some on my IG and in discord. I  didn't even really leave the Crown for the entire weekend. So much shopping there, including a DFO (direct factory outlet - idk if you call it that in other countries). Didn't actually gamba, but I still had a lot of fun.

For anyone interested, the team I used is available for view here. I didn't create it.

It was probably the last tournament in the world that was being hosted on scarlet and violet. I'm glad that era is now behind us, as we move to champions globally. The team was a lot of fun. Going into it, I didn't have a whole lot of practise. Did a bit of laddering, and tried to test the team out in game as well, but more often than not, opponents couldn't be found because everyone is now playing champions.

So, onto the results of the tourney..
I was 2-1 going into round 4, which isn't too bad. That's 2 wins, 1 loss. There had been like 30 minute breaks between rounds and the hall was packed as you can imagine, so what I usually do at these tournaments is leave the hall and find a quiet place to sit and relax. This does mean that I don't hear announcements for match pairings though, but they post them online, so you just have to keep an eye on your phone.

So between rounds 3 and 4, I left the hall and didn't check my phone for about 5-6 minutes, and got a nasty shock when I saw they had posted round 4 pairings almost instantly. So I rushed back into the hall in a panic to the table where my opponent was waiting. The judge issued me an auto match loss for the first match of the round because I was late. Well within his right to, and I'm not complaining about it (well.. maybe a little). But I do accept it was my fault, and I accepted it on the spot because I knew I was in the wrong. But I think because of that, I was a little upset going into the "2nd" match of that round and I misplayed soooo badly. These are best of 3s, so with that loss, I'd lost in round 4 and went 2-2.

So in classic me style, I decided I'd probably had enough, likely wouldn't make day 2 unless I did another 4 or so rounds without losing, and thought it best to go head for drinks ;)

Thing is though, getting 4 wins isn't impossible. Plenty of people went to day 2 with 5-3 results, or approx, so I should've kept going in hindsight. It was just a shame what happened with round 4. I still had a lot of fun though.

After the tournament, went for drinks, bowling, did holey moley (golf). I went to kingpin for the bowling. Also darts! Um... what else? There's an arcade attached there, so I spent some time in there and won some soft toys which the dogs now have as a souvenir.

Went into Louis Vuitton & Prada, attached to the crown, but alas, I am poor. So this time around, I just window shopped and cried interally.

I had a lot of fun though, and now I can focus on Champions. And back to streaming as well! Just need to shake this cold off first.

Thanks for reading <3
